To the Sea

I was thinking about sea turtles the other day. Well, really about when they have just hatched. And I got to thinking…you know, Christians (or really everyone) are like baby sea turtles. Newly hatched and crawling, they head to the ocean, the place they are meant for. For believers the ocean is Heaven.

The turtles move towards the ocean with the moon as their guide, and we know that the moon reflects the sun. The Bible is like the moon for us; it is our guide since it reflects what Jesus (the Son) wants us to do.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
                                                          Psalm 119:105

But sometimes turtles are misled by what they think is the moon but what is really a streetlight. For us streetlights are other beliefs about life that some may think are real but are actually false. For instance: evolution; the idea that God isn’t real; or the “big bang” theory.

Also, on the way to the ocean predators, like crabs and birds, will sometimes carry the turtles away. For Christians predators are stumbling blocks in our faith, e.g. trying times, people making fun of or persecuting us for what we believe in, thinking that the Biblical account of creation found in Genesis is false, etc.

But we aren't exactly like sea turtles. We don’t have to rely on instinct when we don’t know what to do. We’re not at the whim of crabs or birds. We are God’s children and can pray to our Heavenly Father whenever and wherever. When we’re in a sticky situation, or when everything’s fine He is always there for us.
